XALTCRAFT MARITIME AWARENESS SYSTEM (X-MAS)

X-MAS operates as a distributed System of Systems spanning underwater, edge, and shore domains. It transforms raw sensor data into structured maritime intelligence through layered processing.

The architecture is organised into five operational hierarchy layers that are supported by TwoBlue Artificial Intelligence Engine:

• The physical sensing layer performs actual measurements in the environment.
• The underwater telemetry layer enables data acquisition from deployed sensors.
• The edge computing layer transforms raw sensor data into materially actionable information.
• The command layer enables system-level data fusion and inferences for the operators.
• The data handling layer enables data archival, retrieval and analysis.
This layered architecture aligns the X-MAS system with established principles in distributed sensing, edge computing, data handling and Command & Control system design, ensuring scalability, bandwidth efficiency and functional modularity.

System-of-Systems Domain Matrix

The integrated framework splits system logic into three distinct, continuously interacting operational domains to balance real-time execution with long-horizon strategic optimisation.
• TwoBlue (Intelligence Layer): Provides probabilistic inference, spatiotemporal optimisation,
and long-horizon decision-making over the Digital Ocean Model (DOM).
• X-MAS (Execution Layer): Handles sensing, edge processing, communication, and real-time
operational control within constrained latency and bandwidth environments.
• Data Handling System (DHS) (Terrestrial Infrastructure Layer): Provides persistent
storage, ingestion, archival, replay, and offline analytics for system training and validation.
X-MAS is implemented as a closed-loop cybernetic system in which TwoBlue maintains a probabilistic world model (DOM), X-MAS executes sensing and edge inference, and DHS provides persistent data retention and system training infrastructure.

Cybernetic System Philosophy

Rather than treating subsea sensors as isolated data-collection points, X-MAS integrates distributed sensing hardware, edge compute arrays, and adaptive strategic modeling into a unified cybernetic architecture.
Each deployment cycle improves detection accuracy, coverage efficiency, and environmental understanding. The core objective is the continuous reduction of uncertainty in the underwater domain through persistent observation, machine-learning-assisted interpretation, and closed-loop optimisation.

Closed-Loop Intelligence Principle

X-MAS is built on a cybernetic control architecture in which sensing, interpretation, decision-making, execution, and learning operate as a continuous feedback loop.
The system reduces uncertainty by iteratively refining both environmental models and deployment strategies based on operational feedback.

Classification outputs, environmental measurements, and long-term trend data can be automatically exported to scientific analysis frameworks and environmental monitoring networks while minimizing
disturbance to marine wildlife

Wader Sonar Range

Wader System

WADER is a comprehensive sonar range prediction and Global Ocean Information System which combines environmental data together with user-supplied parameters to generate propagation loss data (PL) and calculate sonar probability of detection.

Designed for users of all abilities, data is generated in real time. Analysis of the data can provide information such as best evasion depth, likely target depths and optimum sonar position.

Marine data

Database Management System

We have a database application optimized for storing and querying data that represents objects within a geometric space. This centralized database offers long-term archiving, reporting and its data serve as input parameters for modelling system and GIS applications. Real-time data, data history and early warnings can therefore be presented on demand to help decision makers to plan marine transport, industrial operations, or environmental protection activities. Advanced architectural design and algorithms assures data security and conform to OpenGIS Consortium (OGC) mapping standards.

Analytical Tool

A powerful analytical tool that allows analysis of tidal measurements, calculation of harmonic contents, incorporation of wind speed, wind direction and barometric pressure data and produces tide prediction based on harmonic analysis with advanced surge suppression and extreme measurement values. The software features full data QA/ QC intelligent design, spike removal, interpolation over allowable gaps, ‘flat lines’ removal, datum and time (clock) shifts along with full record of changes. It can choose harmonics automatically or user can input pre-chosen list that has 112 built-in harmonics based on the UKHO/ IHO set; there is no limit to number that can be added to meet local requirements. It can analyze any number of points over any length time period (not limited to 18.6 years) in a few seconds. This software automatically chooses most appropriate scheme that can be overridden by user after inspection of spectrum and residuals. It automatically computes MHHW, MHW, MLLW, MLW, MSL, HAT, LAT, MHWS, MHWN, MLWS, MLWN, ISHW, ISLW, and trend during analysis.
